How an app made me lose 12kgs in 4 months

What was happening
While I was in Trivandrum, I used to hit the gym on a regular basis (at least 4 days a week, that’s my regular :P) along with one of my colleagues. We used to do weight training and then cardio. But the pace at which I was losing weight was never close to what I expected.
We had free snacks at our office, so I used to snack a lot. Other than that, Kerala Porotta. Kerala Porotta is not a food item for us mallus, it’s an emotion. No matter how down you are, this will lift your mood up.
Then came pandemic and lockdown started. My gym routine stopped and I wasn’t doing any kind of workout (even though I thought of doing it daily xD). Most of the evenings, I had some snacks to eat, be it bonda, samosa, pizza, etc.
July 2021, weight reached 96.5 Kg and blood sugar reached borderline. It freaked me out like anything. Planned to start a strict diet and workout.
What changed
That time, I came across the HealthifyMe app. It was already used by many people. I started tracking food items in that. That’s when I realized the high amount of calories in the food items that I used to have frequently. And I understood why I wasn’t losing weight in the way I expected it.
Egg puffs and Kerala Porotta — How I wish if calories were a little less :(
Keeping silent crying apart and coming back to the story, I started following a strict diet (which may seem normal for others). For a person who used to have 7–8 teas a day, stopping it completely was difficult initially.
Walking 5kms daily, drinking 4–5L water, and a normal diet helped to lose 12Kg in 4 months. Also, trying to keep the streak going on in the app, forced me to come back to the app daily. Blood sugar which had reached borderline also improved considerably.
The most impressive feature that I found in HealthifyMe is its huge food database. It has all types of cuisines and dishes. Even Kerala style maththi curry (Fish curry) is there :D
To all those who are planning to lose some weight or want to gain some, try using HealthifyMe or similar apps to track diet and even workout. It’s very helpful. Other than that,
Happy Snacking :P
